SENSORY PROCESSES
The axolotl has very poor eyesight and therefore relies on its senses of smell and touch in order to navigate. It possesses special organs that allow it to smell underwater. The axolotl's smell is used for finding prey as well as searching for a mate. They are also able to feel vibrations in the water, allowing them to detect other animals near them. The axolotl's sense of taste also allows them to reject a food item if it does not like the taste quality of said item.
